DECA |
Student Review Board |
To give some context, DECA is a state and nationwide club that encourages young adults to explore areas in business, and there are area, state, and international conferences to compete in. In 2020 I placed 4th out of 67 teams with my Entrepreneurship Innovation Plan, qualifying me for SCDC where I again placed fourth in the entire state. This qualified me for the international DECA competition (ICDC), which unfortunately was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I competed for the first time Sophomore year in the Marketing Management event with a partner and placed 6th in area, and I created my own business plan that won me 6th in area as well. Both of these finishes qualified me for the state tournament, which took place in late February 2019. In my Start-Up Business Plan event I placed 15th, and in the Marketing Management event my partner and I placed 10th.

At Overlake, there is a board of six students (1 freshman, 1 sophomore, 2 juniors, and 2 seniors) that hears disciplinary cases whenever there is an infraction or issue that arises. We make a recommendation to the Assistant Upper School Head about the consequence we think fits the action, and 99% of the time she accepts our recommendation. The board keeps everything entirely confidential, and members require good judgement and a strong amount of trust. As a freshman, sophomore, and junior, my entire grade elected me to be the representative, and I will continue to represent my peers throughout the rest of high school.

BuildOn |
Science Club |
BuildOn is an organization that creates projects for students to visit a developing country and build a school. Sophomore year we raised thousands of dollars for building resources and for one of our members to travel to Malawi to build a school.

In science club I helped prepare for the Science Olympiad, a statewide competition, and host a Science Symposium. For the symposium I reached out to scientists in Washington asking if they would come present at our school for a day, and worked on advertising this event to our students and students from other schools.

VolunteeringThe summer before 9th grade I frequently volunteered at the Bellevue Farmers Market teaching young kids about vegetables and organic foods that were featured at the market. For three summers I have volunteered with the Haystack Rock Awareness Program. Every summer my family stays in Cannon Beach, OR for about a week, and for a few of those days I spend 5-6 hours on the beach helping this program. We set up an information table and truck right at dawn, and when I first started they taught me about the environment and ecosystem living at and around Haystack Rock. Our job was to answer any questions visitors had about life around the rock, point out interesting creatures, make sure the birds weren't disturbed, and protect the surrounding area. At the end of the day we submitted data we collected to the city of Cannon Beach so that the city would continue to protect the beautiful beach rock.

Student Interview CommitteeMy junior year I was selected to be a part of the Student Interview Committee. This means that when a candidate is interviewing for a job at Overlake, I am among a small group of students that takes part in the interview and gives feedback to the school on how we think they would fit into our community.
