There's a reason the "student" comes before the "athlete" in the label "student-athlete," and I am no exception to this. Below you will find my transcripts from 9th and 10th grade. I go to The Overlake School and was in the top classes I could take as a freshman/sophomore. As far as course load goes, spring of 10th grade I almost perfected my time management skills while juggling school golf five days a week, volleyball three days a week, and both on the weekends - on some days I don't get home until 10:30 pm, yet I am proud to say I was not horribly sleep-deprived. I recently scored a 1550 on the SAT (770 english, 780 math, 22 essay) and plan on striving for improvement later my junior year. Let's travel back to to the first page for a moment; I believe who I am as a person is most important no matter what I'm doing or who is watching, and I have attached some clips from the comments some of my teachers wrote on my report cards to emphasize the person I am behind the scores and numbers.
"Ivy is a highly intelligent and insightful young woman who could easily coast on her natural ability and earn a strong grade in this class. But, that is not Ivy. Ivy is a determined, industrious, and eager learner—she loves learning for the sake of learning, and she delighted in every opportunity to do so this year" - Jenni Baldwin, English (9th)
"Ivy has been an outstanding student . . . It is not just her natural ability nor just the degree of time and effort applied to assignments. Ivy excels because of her natural interests in learning and she seeks to make complete sense of the topics being studied. " - Dave Parsons, World History (10th)
"Ivy is one of the most driven students I have taught. She is gifted at recognizing areas she needs to improve and then finding effective strategies to make corrections immediately. While the conceptual nature of the course sometimes proved challenging, Ivy was never one to take her foot off the gas, but instead, doubled down and worked even harder." - Stephanie Belieres, Honors BioChem II (10th)
"With all of her outside commitments, she is still able to engage energetically in class and produce work that is light years beyond her peers. I admire the maturity and nuance in her thinking and writing." - Mia Wall, English (10th)
"I have used her work as ideal examples to help illustrate how to seamlessly integrate evidence into a thorough discussion of scientific theory . . . Ivy is great about asking questions when she is confused about a concept and uses Office Hours effectively" - Stephanie Belieres, BioChem II Honors (10th)
"She has aced every assignment, quiz and test. I really appreciate her enthusiasm for learning and improving, and her high level of participation . . . She worked well both by herself and in groups." - Jose Simonet, Spanish IV (10th)
"Her performance demonstrates a high degree of thoughtful application of concepts and techniques to her work . . . Her contributions were valued as they demonstrated key insights into course material." - Chris Border, PreCalculus Honors (10th)
"She demonstrates understanding of concepts along with an ability to show this in writing—a critical skill in AP Statistics" - Kathy Finkenstadt, AP Statistics (10th)
